all I can say it was very hard to put this book down when I first got it if you do not have it is definitely a must-have quickly before it sells out or goes out of print I highly recommend this I give this book a 20 Stars it is freaking amazing 💞

I have had a hard time putting this book down it has wonderful stories and is vivid in describing the Orisha's in great detail.

A true rare gem, more than 1000 pages containing fascinating mythological tales (itans) about the Yoruba Gods, the main Odus and other aspects of Africania witchcraft, philosophy, habits and religion. It worth every penny!!!

This 964-page book has lots of unattributed stories and tidbits but I found it disorganized. Because there's no index and information about different deities is scattered throughout, it doesn't function well as a reference. Moreover, Cuoco seems to be making a questionable attempt to compile a "bible" of West African deities; on page 795 he equates variations in myths with confusion, as if there had once been a single authorized version of the stories. After repeatedly asserting that the supreme deity is male and specifying the gender of deities in most of his stories, Cuoco admits on pages 817-818 that most orishas have no gender. Personally, I'd want to confirm whatever he says with more reliable scholarly sources.
